The risks of non-compliance with fluorocarbon regulations and our recommendations for planned equipment replacement
Risks of Continuing to Use HCFC Refrigerant Equipment
Cryochillers for Vacuum System Using HCFC Gas
Why you need to plan for replacement now, before your equipment becomes irreparable
Even after the Fluorocarbon Emissions Control Act took effect in April 2017, many Cryochillers for Vacuum System using HCFC gas (R22) remain in active operation, and continued use is permitted.
However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to secure replacement gas for repairs.
A “wait until it breaks” approach risks leaving you unable to obtain gas when you need it most, potentially resulting in longer downtime than anticipated.
The Gas Leak Crisis
If a gas leak or malfunction occurs, refrigerant gas cannot be replaced or recharged. As a result, the only option is to replace the entire unit, creating an unexpected and significant financial burden. Delivery and installation of replacement equipment takes several weeks, and the resulting production shutdown poses the greatest operational risk to your business.
Measures to Avoid These Risks
We recommend taking a planned approach to equipment replacement: identify how many Cryochillers use regulated refrigerant gases, allocate budget in advance to prepare for unexpected costs, and schedule replacements at times that will not disrupt production.
